Main Insect/Pest Information Page > Cave crickets
Also known as Mole Crickets and Camel Back Crickets
What they are called is of little concern when you come across a collection of them in your garage or basement. There are those who swear they purposely hop, directly at them.
This creature gains access to your home late in the Fall and finds a cozy, dark, preferably damp place to spend the winter. In the early Spring out hatch the babies which are very small.
As the season progresses, they feed and grow, feed and grow, until mid to late summer you have a plump, jumping 3-4 inch absolutely horrible creature.
The good news is that they are harmless, do no damage, do not bite or sting. They are simply one of mother natures’ “spooky looking, send shivers up your back, I like living in your house”, creatures.
The really good news is that we can control them very well, and frequently with no spraying of pesticides.
