NEW JERSEY INSECT/PEST INFORMATION

Main Insect/Pest Information Page > Centipedes

Typically tan or grayish in color, the house centipede is one of the fastest runners in the insect world. This insect has up to 15 pairs of delicate spider-like legs. They are most commonly found in the basement due to their preference for a more humid climate, but can easily travel throughout the entire house. The house centipede will eat almost any other insect or spider that it encounters and is considered an excellent hunter.

They are rarely found in such large numbers that they become a serious nuisance but control is possible if the homeowner desires it.
