German, American, Wood, Oriental, Brown-Banded

Of the five (5) species, four (4) roach species are encountered in our Northern New Jersey service area.

American Roach: typically found in commercial accounts, around steam pipes, sump pumps, and sewers. Granular baits and glue boards work well. But it’s an ongoing battle, they came in from somewhere and will continue to do so.

Wood Roach: An outside creature not typically and inside problem. Most commonly brought in with firewood.

Oriental Roach: typically called a water bug because they like it damp. Not a common problem species. Baits and granular materials work best.

Brown Banded Roach: Very similar in look to the German roach and control is similar except that these roaches usually reside where the German roach does not.

The prefer to be up high (shelves in closets, behind pictures and moldings).

The key to effective control is proper identification, if they are mistakenly being treated as German roaches, the wrong areas will be treated.

German Roach: This is the most common roach encountered, it’s important to realize that they are carried into a structure they do not come in from outside.

Once in a structure, they are found primarily in kitchens and bathrooms. Once established, they follow pipe runs or wall voids to move about and expand into other bathrooms, or in the case of a multiple dwelling, other units.

If you see roaches consistently in rooms other than the kitchen or bathroom, you have quite a population.

It is not uncommon for control to take as long as you’ve had the problem. If you have been seeing them off and on for six (6) months, don’t expect someone to get rid of them in thirty (30) days.

If you have a circumstance,(say you work somewhere that has roaches and you routinely bring home cardboard boxes or you have periodic deliveries from places with roaches), don’t ever expect to never see a roach.

No one can eliminate a roach infestation that is periodically being repopulated.

The materials, machines, devices available for German roach control are too numerous to mention.

We do have methods and materials that are effective and have the benefit of avoiding a “spray em out with smelly, toxic pesticides followed by a good bombing”.

In all seriousness, there was recently a case where twenty (20) or more aerosol “bombs” were set off by a homeowner only to be ignited by a gas pilot light, “Ka-Boom”… no kidding.
