Good night, Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite…

You've heard the phrase and probably never given it a moment's thought, that is until now. Television, newspapers, and the internet are filled with home remedies, how to's, and a great deal of misinformation.

We at Trius Pest Management are trying to provide a concise overview of the current situation. We are not claiming to be experts (the "experts" don't agree with each other, nor do they have all of the answers). But as professionals in the business of providing bed-bug service, with trained field technicians and office personnel who are on the front lines, we can provide inspections, correct information, good advice and quality service.

The areas of information for you to consider are as follows:

Can a bedbug service be guaranteed?
Is a bedbug service typically guaranteed?
Where do bed bugs come from?
Are there health risks?
How do I know if I have an infestation?
How can I prevent an infestation?
What is the typical protocol for service?
Bed bug facts and fiction?
Bed bug biology.

Can bedbug service be guaranteed?

We at Trius Pest Management feel that a client deserves the opportunity to have a guaranteed service offered as an option; therefore Trius offers a guarantee for all bedbug services.

To be clear, there is no way to guarantee that you will not get bedbugs or even have a re-infestation after a service is preformed. What we can do is provide a service which anticipates any re-infestations and provide a service assurance.

We would be happy to meet with you and explain our program options for a guaranteed bedbug service.

Is a bedbug service typically guaranteed?

Typically a bedbug service is not guaranteed. Unless you can identify the source of the original infestation (or new ones), then avoid them, you may very well become re-infested over and over again.

Where do bed bugs come from?

It is commonly thought that bedbugs are often brought home by business and vacation travelers who stay in infested hotel rooms. While this is true, many times they are brought into your home by visiting friends and relatives, by children's friends during a "sleep-over", home health aides, cleaning staff; basically anyone who walks into your home and puts down a knapsack, takes off a sweater or jacket or brings something from their home. Also of concern, are college dormitories, theatre seats, train seats, bus seats, even restaurants. How many times have we attended a large party in someone's home where we all threw our coats on a bed? The opportunities to become infested with bedbugs are endless…

Are there health risks?

Bedbugs are not known to transmit any diseases. Minor issues such as itchy bites and infected bites may be of concern. Mental health problems, often serious, can be triggered by the stress and possible lack of sleep brought on by an infestation.

How do I know if I have an infestation?

Bedbugs generally congregate around the seams of mattresses and box springs, very often these infestations may go undetected for many months. A mature bedbug is about 3/8 of an inch long and a dark, reddish brown color, and easily seen, but an immature bedbug can be extremely small and hard to detect. When an infestation is suspected, a thorough check of the mattress seams for live insects and small black spots left behind by their droppings would be the first step. Often a more thorough, professional inspection is required.

How can I prevent an infestation?

You can't, but the earlier an infestation is detected, the easier it will be to eliminate and the less discomfort and inconvenience that you will experience. Trius can help you be prepared to detect an infestation at its start; knowing early is vital.

What is the typical protocol for service?

Every home is different and the service plan must be flexible to accommodate this fact. Generally there will be three services, with each spaced about two weeks apart. The two week spacing is necessary due to the hatching cycle of the eggs, which are very difficult to kill.

We can use a combination of steaming and traditional pesticides, or cater a program of steaming and non pesticide products. After visiting your home and discussing your needs, we can suggest the program that would be best to remedy your situation.
